Montage of objects from the museum collection

The BPMA museum collection is of national and international importance. It is as rich and varied as the history of the postal service that it represents.

The collection includes objects of all sizes, from the small - handstamps, labels and telephone headsets - to the very large - our Mobile Post Office Vehicles and Travelling Post Office railway coach. It also includes non-Public Record paper material - related to the postal service but not created by Royal Mail Group - such as song sheets and postcards.

Thanks to our links with Royal Mail Group, the museum collection is constantly being developed. We collect things that reflect the role of people in the postal service, and the innovations in technology to meet the demands of a changing world.

How you can see the museum collection

Some objects are stored with The Royal Mail Archive in central London, but the majority are kept at our Museum Store. Although the Store is not open every day, we run regular open days, afternoons and evenings. See What's On for details.

If you want to visit the Store on dates other than those advertised, or if you are interested in seeing a particular object in this section call 020 7239 2570 or email info@postalheritage.org.uk. Each object within this section has an accession number, it is useful to reference this in an enquiries about that object.

Our cataloguing team are working hard to make more and more of our Museum collection available in our Online catalogue. Frequent online exhibitions also introduce wider audiences to the stories that our collection can tell.
