Touring Exhibition - Moving the Mail: Horses to Horsepower
An exhibition exploring the history of road transport in the Post Office, at The Grampian Transport Museum in Alford, Aberdeenshire.
The Post Office has always been innovative in developing new systems for transporting the mail and the BPMA's vehicle collection is a wonderful combination of classic design and eccentricity. From mail coaches and early versions of the bicycle to our magnificently restored Mobile Post Office, there is something of interest for everyone.
Moving the Mail first appeared at Coventry Transport Museum in summer and autumn 2006. It is now on tour to other venues, taking these beautiful old machines around the country.
Until September 2007, visitors could enjoy Moving the Mail at Bletchley Park. Find out about the fascinating history of road transport in the Post Office, and indulge in pure nostalgia. Moving the Mail is currently starring at Grampian Transport Museum in Aberdeenshire, until 31 October 2008. The exhibition will also be available from March until October 2008 at the Scottish Railway Preservation Society in Bo'ness, West Lothian.
You can also enjoy selected highlights online.
Please note that the actual vehicles on display will vary from venue to venue due to local restrictions.
