The Big Draw 2007: 'Myself on a stamp'
The BPMA took
part in the Campaign for Drawing's Big Draw again on 23 October 2007 with our workshop Myself on a Stamp. We worked with artist
and illustrator Paul Jackson to encourage children to create their own abstract
self portraits to be displayed on stamps. These self portraits took emphasis
from Arnold Machin’s iconic portrait of The Queen used on stamps
today.

The Big Draw 2006: GPO Animation
Watch the short animated film Line Dance, created by everyone who took part in our first Big Draw workshop in October 2006. Line Dance was inspired by the work of artist Len Lye for the GPO Film Unit in the 1930s.

Penny Black project - Victoria & Albert
As part of The Penny Black Changed the World project, we ran a series of art workshops in schools in summer term 2006, with artist Jonathan Boast. Pupils designed massive collages based on the Penny Black stamp (featuring the head of Queen Victoria), and another design for a Prince Albert stamp. Working together they produced some fantastic results.

Stamp design competition winners 2006
At the Museum Store
Open Days on 28 and 29 July 2006, children could enter the 'Design your
own stamp' competition. The children used ideas from the objects they
had seen around the Museum Store, or simply used their imaginations and
created a wide range of stamp designs. The competition entries were
divided into two age categories: 6 years and under, and 7 to 12 years.
See the winning entries in each category.
Bensham Manor sketches
Bensham
Manor School Year 9 pupils came to our Museum Store for a whole day of
activities. They did some sketches of the objects they saw to help them
make a big banner all about jobs in the Post Office. These drawings
give you an idea of the kinds of objects we have in our collection.

Young Cutural Creators with St Alban's School
We have drawings and designs from two projects at St Alban's School in London. In 2005, pupils produced their very own stamp designs. In 2006, they created Victorian-style illustrated envelopes, just like ones we have in the archive.
