Location: London,
WC1X 0DL
Salary: £28,500, two year contract
Closing date: 25 July 2008
This is an exciting opportunity to join a new
and highly ambitious organisation. Founded in 2004, The British Postal Museum
& Archive (BPMA) cares for the archive and museum collections of Royal
Mail. Our Designated Public Record Archive and Museum Collections range from
sheets of Penny Blacks, posters and 1930s films, to mobile post offices and
telegrams from the Titanic. We are currently working on a major relocation
project to find a new home for the museum and archive.
The Exhibitions
& Learning Manager is part of BPMA’s eight person Access & Development
team. The team develops and delivers projects and resources which increase
access to BPMA’s collections, create learning opportunities, engage new
audiences, grow income, and promote awareness of our work amongst the media,
public and wider stakeholders.
The team has an
ongoing exhibitions, events and education programme. This includes Last Post: Remembering the First World War.
This is
a partnership exhibition at the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms
which opens in November 2008 and will then tour to a series of other
museums around the country until 2011. In addition, a GPO Posters
exhibition is scheduled for 2009. We are also co-ordinating a year-long
festival that will
take place during 2010 to raise public awareness and understanding of
British
stamp design. The Exhibitions & Learning Manager will lead
development of
these initiatives.
Main Purpose of the Job
The focus of the post is to take the creative and strategic lead in developing and implementing all of the BPMA’s exhibition and education work including our annual and touring exhibitions programme, events, educational projects and learning resources. The post also informs the development of access and outreach via this website.
